Looking Back to Golf in California

Day One - Photos from PGA West Jack Nicholas Course in La Quinta, CA.

The morning started out lovely with temperatures in the low 70s.
The humidity was about 7%.
By 1:30 when the G-Man finished his first round the temperature was 108 F.
Yikes!!!

Larry from California was fashionably dressed
in his golf knickers & argyle socks.

The G-Man teed off on the first hole
and proceeded to make his second shot.


Day 2 - The Greg Norman Course, La Quinta, CA

The G-Man's tee time was 7:06 AM.

Today the G-Man has the Knicker-Man riding with him.
They both have red shirts & it looks like it was planned.

Day 3 - The Mountain Course at La Quinta and it is stunning.

This may be the most dramatic course in the area

because of the mountains surrounding it.

The water makes it look cool, but this was the hottest day of play.
The temperature reached 109 in the afternoon.

The Team Event - Days 5 & 6

Last 2 days of the tournament was a team event.

Above are 6 of the 12 members of the
Austin-San Antonio Team.

Lots of golfers participated in the Team event.
There were 35 teams participating from all over the U.S.

The G-Man and his team partner, Mike.

All are lined up and waiting for the go-ahead.
The outcome was that Team Austin-San Antonio finished in 8th place.

The G-Man really enjoyed all these events and played 6 days straight.
Unfortunately he didn't do as well as he hoped and was pretty low on the
overall individual tournaments.
However, in the Team event he played well the last day and
helped his team move from 20th place to 8th place overall.
It was a respectable showing & he felt vindicated.

After leaving the hot southern California desert we headed for the
mountains and much cooler air of Utah and Arizona.

Golf 101 - Ya Gotta Look Good!

Let me preface this blog by saying I'm just having a bit of fun... this is #1 in a series of 1! I suppose I must be bored or have temporarily run out of material 'cause this isn't my usual post... at least not on fashion or at least my fashion sense. First things first! If you're going out on the golf course it's best if you look great, then folks will think you are a serious golfer. Perhaps if you look the part you will act the part. Who wants to look at a golfer in jeans or cut-offs? That just says you aren't really interested. Of course all good golf courses would rather lose a customer than have someone on the course who looks shabby. Most golf courses require golfers wear appropriate golf attire. No cut-offs, no jeans, no sleeveless shirts for men, no collarless shirts, etc. In other words don't show up looking like you are ready to work in your yard or garden!

Now being retired I am on a budget (well, I always have been on a budget, but that's beside the point) I look for bargains. A top notch outlet mall will have several golf shops in them... the best in our area are two outlet malls side by side in San Marcos, TX. This truly is a great group of outlet stores at Prime Outlet and Tanger Outlet. There is a Greg Norman shop where I buy tops and golf skirts and also Adidas, Izod, & Puma shops. Some of my best buys come from T. J. Max stores as they usually have golf attire for women. Many times I have found bargains at the pro shops at a golf course and these usually carry high-end merchandise.

The main thing is to get out there & have fun! Golf is challenging and requires a great deal of concentration to connect with the ball & get the desired results. Looking good goes a long way in building confidence.
