I love mystery stories and this is mystery at it's best. I wonder if Larsson had been a reader of Tom Clancy. I am reminded of Clancy novels because of the intricate detail that both men put into their stories. Each significant character is elaborately described.
Each book has a different set of crimes to solve with the underlying mystery of Lisbeth Salander's background. Mikael Blomkvist is the journalist for the magazine Millennium who uncovers crimes of a serial killer, corporate and financial crimes, espionage and government cover-ups. As you can deduce by the names of the characters the stories take place in Sweden. The stories contain both physical & psychological violence and are not for the faint of heart.
Now I am into the third in the trilogy, The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest, and am thoroughly enjoying it. The first book is The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and the second is The Girl Who Played with Fire. I shall be sorry when I finish the 3rd book because the author, Steig Larsson, is deceased and unless his partially written fourth book is completed we will have no more. All books were published posthumously. If you enjoy mysteries these would be good reads... maybe not a summer read, but one that can be enjoyed in the cold of winter.
