Mike Leggett takes us on a walk in the Palo Duro Canyon in the Texas Panhandle. It is a relatively new canyon formed at the end of the last glacial retreat 20,000 years ago. It is a Texas State Park and cuts through the plains known as the Llano Estacado (Staked Plains).

hey lizzy thanks for the little travelogue video. i wish that it could be possible to see the area before it was eroded and then run the tape through twenty thousand years of weather and whatever else. steven
Ahh..... When we were kids living in Amarillo, my cousins' family and mine would go to Palo Duro on the weekends. One place only the "big" kids got to go to was called "Devil's Slide".
I don't remember where it was but it sounded really scary!
We also could find some really neat geodes there.

Palo Duro Canyon is just amazing. It is hidden by the rolling plains until you are right up on it. A beautiful cleft in the ground that reveals an entirely different world.
