These photos are pretty much self-explanatory,
but I do have a few comments to make.
Baptist men who are part of a
Disaster Relief Group and trained to
remove trees came to our rescue.
The G-man is discussing with the groups leader
what trees should come down.
The ones chosen are in danger of falling
on our house.
In all, 13 trees were cut and removed to the roadside
over a two day period.
The man operating the skid-steer loader was able to
pick up the debris and move it to
the road for eventual pick-up by the county.
We are so thankful for this service because
it would have been extremely expensive
for us to have hired someone to
remove all these trees.
Just last week the tree service folks who
were hired by the electric power company
that services our area came and
removed another 20 or so trees that
were in danger of falling on power lines.
Thankfully this beautiful tree beside our patio
is still healthy.
It was not damaged by the fires.
We have close to 20 trees in our immediate yard
that should be okay.

I seem to remember a cluster of several pines behind where you are standing taking the shot of your patio tree... Have those been removed or salvaged? I know you and Gerald weren't sure if they would survive...
i am happy that there are people helping you out to check which needs to stay and which ones needs to be cut down for your safety, although i know it is sad.
take care! God bless!

a sad and sorry state but glad that they won't be falling on your house.
Rick, those pines were cut in the second go-round. I've a photo of them that will be posted tomorrow or the next day showing them. They have now become table-tops on which to feed birds & other critters.
JJ, if it weren't for all the people coming into the area to help we would all be totally overwhelmed.
Ellen... that is the good news... those trees will not be falling on our house. More on the changes tomorrow and Thursday.
I am always sorry for trees that have to go, but I know even after a fierce storm or fire a formerly wooded are can recover quickly. There are so many seeds in the ground, new life will soon grow! I am still happy for you that your house was saved. And YOU!
ha, funny! The veri word is "gracings". True.
That must have been hard for you to watch Cheryl, but preventing the risk of one falling on your home outweighs the sadness. One county over from us is in the process of removing 50,000 trees due to an Asian Longhorn beetle infestation.
Hi Cheryl
How good these teams are ...I think the best in people often comes out under these circumstances. I know with the recent Brisbane floods they had to send volunteers home who turned up each day to lend a hand cleaning up...
