Strolling Around Old Town Saint Augustine

One afternoon the G-man & I drove into
Saint Augustine to explore
the old section of town.

The original fort at Saint Augustine
which overlooks the bay.

It was busy with tourists
although not as many as in summer months.

This cute young lady at the coffee shop
had some interesting tattoos
and flecks of glitter on her skin.

Everything is very quaint and definitely
has the feel of a coastal town.

There were many souvenir-type shops here
but also quite a number of upscale shoe shops.
And of course there are restaurants
and bars every few feet.

These ladies were quite fond of taking a little rest.
They would walk half a block, sit, & watch folks go by
and then mosey along the pathway
to another bench on which to rest.

We enjoyed our walk, but
we did not find the
Fountain of Youth!
This is not my kind of town,
but it is interesting and historical.

Round About St. Augustine

Architecture of old St. Augustine. It is Spanish in design.
The spires remind me of minarets seen in
southern Spain with its Arabic influence.

This appears to be an old market square
located on St. Augustine's main street.
It reminds me of the markets in
Charleston and New Orleans
only on a much smaller scale.

We drove around the old town, but did not stop. There were many tourists about in the middle of the afternoon and we did not really feel like fighting the crowds. Seems I'm getting to like quieter destinations. Rather than stay in the town we drove to St. Augustine Beach to do a little beach walking and enjoy the Atlantic Ocean. It has been many years since I dipped my toes into the Atlantic. Photos of our beach walk are coming soon.
