Veteran's Day in the U.S. is November 11.
Delwyn tells me it is also worn in Australia & New Zealand,
(ANZAC) Australian & New Zealand Army Corps,
to honor their soldiers.
The poppy is worn to honor those who serve.
Oh yes.
The symbol of the Day of Remembrance is the Poppy flower, a red petaled flower that grows abundantly in the fields of Flanders, in Western Belgium, where most of the fighting took place during World War I. On November 11, 1918 at 11 a. m. the last shot of this war was fired and peace declared. The Red Poppies that grow in full bloom above the dead in the fields of Flanders, where the brave soldiers sacrificed their blood and life for their own countries, seem to be symbolic of the belief that the blood of heroes never dies.

Yes. An important memory.
My grandfather faught at Verdun, but of course on the German side. He was drafted, and was not there on free will, but he did it for his country, as all soldiers do. He survived, but many many men died, on both sides. Let`s remember them.
One more word. Another world war followed, with even more victims, and incredible destruction, but...
since 65 years there was NO WAR in Europe. Maybe we have learned from their sacrifices? Let`s hope so.
Yes Angela, I hope we have learned from their sacrifices too. Now if we could just spread the "no war" to eastern Europe, Asia, the mid-East, South America, Africa, Mexico I would have hope. It's difficult as John Lennon said to "imagine" the world in peace. Hugs to you Angela.

the poppy is also the symbol used in the Au and NZ memorial day for war veterans which is called ANZAC day, an acronym for Australian and New Zealand Army Corp - for those same reasons.

Both my granddads fought in WW2 and lived thank god, the 11th is also remembrance day in the UK.
