Our fireplace & mantel are the spots
that hold some of my memories.
The basket (lower left) was brought to me
from Italy where a little old man
was weaving it of natural materials.
The cypress wood tree sculpture came from
a trip to Louisiana.
It makes the perfect "Christmas" trees
and makes its appearance in winter.
that hold some of my memories.

This painting is of me, my mare Ginny Blue, and her colt Gantry.
We were riding in the North San Gabriel River
on a wonderful summer afternoon.
A friend took a photo of us & another friend rendered the painting.
I always wanted to have a horse and when I was 40 my dream came true.
Then 3 more horses were added to the mix.
A house in the country, 4 horses, 3 cats, 3 dogs.
Me, & my ex-husband, surrounded by animals...
the good life.
The "good life" did come screeching to a halt after about 5 years,
but it was good while it lasted.
I don't want to write about the end of a good time,
only the good times.
This painting is of the Rio Grande in northern New Mexico.
The G-man & I purchased it a few years ago at
the Market in Santa Fe.
The Taos area is a favorite place for us to visit.
It and the other painting are perfectly matched on the mantel.
Where do you place special items that help you
to remember special times.

I have a shelf along the windowsill above the kitchen sink that I keep little things on and then a book case turned into display cabinet.
I keep a few things on the kitchen counter that I like... which probably begins to be clutter in my case.
Lizzy -- You have a beautiful fireplace and mantel full of your treasures. The painting of you and your mare with her colt is lovely.
Just about everything in my house is special to me -- therefore one finds it everywhere in my house.
You have a great mix of animals -- barbara
Thanks for stopping by my place Barbara! Have a good Sunday.
I used to do a lot of oil painting and selling them and going to shows all the time. Now it is photography. For me it is easier and I no longer have to cope with smelling poppy seed oil and turpentine.
What a beautiful post and a beautiful home. Your fireplace is a gallery of treasures.
Mine are scattered about in every room. I think I will consolidate some, as you have done.
Thank you for this "way of remembering."
I love that you chose to share your memories in such a personal way, Lizzy. Being textural, I love the baskets and the stoney mantle. How wonderful to have a friend paint a picture of you riding your dream horse!
I have memories everywhere in my house. Every object has a story, a story i want to hold on to. Some days I think there is too much clutter and I will have to loose some of my things. After a lifetime, it's hard to part with the objects and the memories.... but you really can hold on to too much stuff! Thank you for sharing this.
Linda, I agree about holding on to too much can be overwhelming. I try to "weed" occasionally & just hang on the the really memorable things. Much of the memories are contained in pieces of art so most of those have particular spots to occupy.
