Austin's Rally to Restore Sanity

The weather was perfect.
The mood was good.
We didn't produce as many folks as DC
but we had fun.
The DC event was simulcast on the big screen
so we felt very involved!

It's really not... DC's was much better
but
We're bigger than DC.

Out of the mouth of babes!

"BE Excellent to each other
take it down a notch, dude!"

Maybe,

but not calmer than this little guy!

Couldn't resist the lady with the hat!

Yeah, me too!

Walking in Bastrop State Park

It's just a walk in the park
on this lovely autumn day.

After crossing over the bridge
and walking about 1/4 mile

Gertie & I came upon this pretty little lake.

Lots of berry bushes around this area
and the birds really love them.

We have lots around our house
that we keep watered & pruned
for the birds to enjoy.

They are also pretty to see.

I have a map of the trails
which are well marked
and color-coded.

Woo-wee, I am so glad to see this bench.
It isn't as pretty as some Angela sees on
her walks, but it is very inviting
after an uphill hike.

Gertie & I will take advantage of this little break.

After more up-hill hiking
we get to the overlook.
There really isn't much to
see in the distance other
than what we have already
walked through, but we'll take a little rest.

This is one of the structures built by the
Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930's.
(I'll have to check that date)

There are structures like this
as well as old water fountains
throughout the park.

Notice the stones in the passage way.

There are cabins in another
area of the park built by the CCC available for rent.
I think each has a fireplace, kitchen, bath.
On my next visit I'll check it out.

Mushroom/Toadstool
poking through the pine needles.

Pretty clear sky with the sun shining brightly.
We walk the same route back to our car.
Yes, there it is through the trees.

Time to head home.
We've been here about 2 1/2 hours
so I think our walk is over.
I know 2 beings who will sleep well tonight!

10/10/10

Autumn in Bastrop
10~10~10

What a glorious day!

The winding road leads me to

the cliffs above the Colorado

where the clear waters of autumn

pass us by on the way to the sea.

In the northern hemisphere autumn is in the air even in central Texas.
It is the perfect time to be out of the house for walks, golf & working in the yard.

Morning Walks

Yeah, yeah, I know it's a resort and it's supposed to be pretty. Heck they charge enough, but I just couldn't help but snap some shots on my morning walks around this Sawgrass Resort in Ponte Vedra Beach. It is a magnificent setting with great oak trees, Spanish moss, lovely waterways, nice grounds, pretty birds, alligators. Of course there are alligators and I saw a couple... nothing new... where there is water many times there are 'gators.

The wife of one of my husband's friends came along on the trip and she & I ran into each other on morning. From then on we took our early morning walks together and had breakfast at a cute little cafe (Elizabeth's Cafe) near the hotel. I'm not too big on hotel dining and this was a cute little breakfast ~ lunch place frequented by regulars and visitors alike.

It turned out that Velma loves the beach too, so she & I would go for a couple of hours each day. We'd sit in the surf, walk, read, chat and just enjoy looking out at the Atlantic Ocean. It's not often that I get to spend time at the beach. Neither of our husbands particularly like the ocean so it was nice that she & I met up.

So far this place has been my favorite golfing destination. I enjoyed the golf, but most of all I enjoyed the surrounding area. There was great food, surf, birds, and sun. Thirty years ago it would have been sex, drugs and rock & roll (well not really); now it's nature, serenity, companionship... the good things in life... priceless.

Strolling Around Old Town Saint Augustine

One afternoon the G-man & I drove into
Saint Augustine to explore
the old section of town.

The original fort at Saint Augustine
which overlooks the bay.

It was busy with tourists
although not as many as in summer months.

This cute young lady at the coffee shop
had some interesting tattoos
and flecks of glitter on her skin.

Everything is very quaint and definitely
has the feel of a coastal town.

There were many souvenir-type shops here
but also quite a number of upscale shoe shops.
And of course there are restaurants
and bars every few feet.

An old mill turned into a shop.

Lovely little entry through a little arbor.

Outdoor accessories.

These ladies were quite fond of taking a little rest.
They would walk half a block, sit, & watch folks go by
and then mosey along the pathway
to another bench on which to rest.

Colorful buildings & lovely gardens.

I'm sure he is patiently waiting for his shopper friend or spouse.

Little shop with colorful wares.

A bit of Spanish architecture.

Sailboats in the bay.

The canal that runs in the residential area.

We enjoyed our walk, but
we did not find the
Fountain of Youth!
This is not my kind of town,
but it is interesting and historical.
