Sealy, TX is just about 20 miles west of Houston on Interstate 10 in Austin County. The population is somewhat under 10,000 people (it was 5,248 in the 2000 census). There is no notable industry in the town. A Walmart is on the outskirts of the town which seems to be the largest single business.
Even though the businesses look sad and dilapidated the homes are rather pretty with immaculate lawns. Some of the photos below are of the older homes in the town. I suspect that being so close to Houston there are many people who commute to the big city to work.
We continue to mull over ways to make that change, but so far have not come up with a suitable arrangement.
They were in the corner yard of the house pictured above.

hi lizzie, what a strange conundrum - absolutely beautiful homes, (i mean look at that one you've posted three from the end with the historic marker, that's gorgeous!!!) and a visually dying or possibly dead centre of town. how do you explain that?! it's possible that the commute option is the one that makes the most sense. people buy everything elsewhere but live in those beautiful homes. wow! have a lovely evening. steven
I think you nailed it. Sealy has become a suburb of Houston.
Probably the way of all small communities where taxes can't maintain the services necessary. My town has become neglected and can't afford maintaining schools and parks. When businesses go elsewhere, towns die.
Oh, I love each of those houses and would probably do the same if I worked in Houston - buy one of those and live there!
Very interesting to see all the pretty homes, and the contrast with the downtown area!
Hope the little cat in your earlier post has found a home by now?
SAd to see the downtown cores deteriorating. Maybe that Walmark just out of town had something to do with it?
What beautiful houses though.
OH, those are lovely homes indeed. We passed by there a couple weeks ago on our way to Houston. We also checked out San Felipe, very interesting little place.
Wish I had posted about our bazaar sooner and then we could have met! Next time...
