West Virginia's Country Roads

Evening Drive through West Virginia Countryside

Almost heaven, West Virginia
Blue Ridge Mountains
Shenandoah River -
Life is old there
Older than the trees
Younger than the mountains
Growin' like a breeze

All my memories gathered 'round her
Miner's lady, stranger to blue water
Dark and dusty, painted on the sky
Misty taste of moonshine
Teardrops in my eye

Country Roads, take me home
To the place I belong
West Virginia, mountain mamma
Take me home, country roads

Covered bridge just outside Lewisburg

Green creek area around the covered bridge

Morning Drive as We Left West Virginia

I hear her voice
In the mornin' hour she calls me
The radio reminds me of my home far away
And drivin' down the road I get a feelin'
That I should have been home yesterday

Couldn't resist taking a photo of Gertie's Country Store

A fixer-upper

Country Roads, take me home
To the place I belong
West Virginia, mountain momma
Take me home, country roads.
Take me home, now country roads.

Winding Road through Washington National Forest

I'd give me eye teeth to make this journey again. So, so beautiful. I particularly like the horse barn and would be delighted to eat and sleep in it - probably couldn't even afford the fixer upper.

Ellen, indeed it was a great drive.

Jason, thanks for stopping by; it was beautiful land and the photos don't do it justice.

Lesley, I too fell in love with the horse barn. There were no horses about for me to photograph and yes, I feel sure it is mega expensive.

Isn't it great? Toots is a treasure. I saw him perform this back in the 70s, and my jaw nearly dropped!
