sunrise through the pinesThe photo above is "borrowed" from the Internet, but the pines across the way from us look remarkably similar. The sun has risen above the pines in our neighborhood and it is a beautiful day indeed! We have needed rain for so very long and it came on Friday & Saturday mornings with great rumbles from the sky.
As we sat at the breakfast table on Friday morning a terrific crash & boom resounded throughout the house, a bright red-orange color appeared on the patio, and the house shook. Lightening struck two very tall lob lolly pine trees in the wooded area beside our house & as we found later continued on the strike the eave of the roof of the house.
We are still assessing damage as it is hidden within the wiring of the house. The cable that gives us TV & Internet went out which was immediately noticeable as we were watching a television morning show. We have gone on to discover the following things: water heater timer & elements - out, telephone service - out, Gerald's CPU - out, my Apple wireless station - out, small TV in back - out (but now repaired), air conditioning system control - out (and total system as yet to be determined), electrical to part of the house - out, damage to eave, and of course two soon to be dead giant pines. Luckily we have cellular telephones to enlist help from various companies.
The other thing we found out yesterday is it knocked out power to at least two homes in the cul-de-sac next to us. A young man from Hoskins Electrical came Friday & restored our electricity & pointed out things that were "fried". He will probably need to return on Monday with CenTex Electrical for the air conditioning. Time Warner Cable came yesterday & repaired everything for the TV & Internet.
Even though this has caused a disruption in our household, the most important thing is Gerald, Gertie Girl & I are safe. The strike did not start a fire in the woods because it was raining and had been for a while so the ground was rather wet. My brother asked if the new kitchen appliances were spared and luckily they were!
I had to laugh at Fire Byrd's & Renee's comments of late. Fire Byrd made a funny at the great "shock" of experiencing a lightening strike & Renee laughed at me going to Starbuck's for use of the Internet and not necessarily for coffee! One thing I found out is how much I enjoy chatting with all my blogger friends and missed the opportunity to exchange comments for two days! Many times the G-man wanted to check something online only to remember that wasn't an option!
Well folks, that's the scoop. There will be some running around to do to get a new wireless station & a computer repaired (or buy a new CPU), but hopefully in a week or two remodeling & repairs to the house will be nearing an end. See you in blogland & have a great Sunday!

Hi Lizzy, its good to be back after a weeks break--hope you had a good Easter! Our Chateau has to have lightening conductors on it, however, we have been hit by lightening at least three times over the years, with no great damage however with such force that the whole building seemed to shake and at the same time there was a resounding bang like a plane going through the sound barrier. Glad that you got things working again fairly quickly!
So glad that you are all ok and that all that is lost can be sorted eventually.
It's a good thing there had been rain as well doesn't bear thinking about otherwise.
xx
Glad to hear you're alright! Ciao
Hi Lizzy:
That does sound very unsettling, to say the least; good thing about the rain keeping any fire from starting at least.
You have a fantastic attitude about this-- glad you're all safe, & hope things are up & running soon.
Hi Lizzy
good about the rain
bad about all the fried wiring,
hopefully it can all be repaired...
I rush and turn off the computer when I hear the thunder approaching,
we get many tropical storms, but the house has never been hit. People in playing fields and boat marinas sometimes are unfortunately.
I hope that things get back to normal so that you can enjoy the renovations in peace.
Happy Days
I wish you luck and a rapid recovery. I hope the damage was not big.
Greetings from London.
Wow I'm so glad you're safe and sound! A big event like that is always a great reminder of what's important.
I love the pic of the sun through the pines. Looking at it made me think about the truth that the sun is a star. It's very star-like in the picture.
Take good care!
