Early Morning Walk Around Fort Davis

Gertie & I awoke early and went for a little walk around town as the sun began to rise.

This neighbor dog ran out to see who is the new dog on the block!
Every time Gertie & I went for a walk he was there to greet us.
He would run up & down his fence line.

Behind this house & the bed and breakfast where we stayed is Sleeping Lion Mountain.

Ahhhh, a hammock just waiting for a lazy Saturday.

I think this is an antique hay baler, but I'm not sure.
It was on display outside the fence at Casa Maya.

Looking back at Sleeping Lion Mountain

The Fort Davis Courthouse is lovely.
We were told a million dollars was raised to restore it.

The restoration was successful & the town has a beautiful centerpiece.
It even has a working clock.

Harvard Hotel is on the left side of the street & Hotel Limpia is on the right.
Limpia Creek runs very near the town & through the Davis Mountains.

There was a dance on Saturday night, but we had plans in the nearby town of Marfa.
We would be dancing at Padre's!

Since this is Memorial Day weekend I took a photo of the "Hometown Heroes".
There is a plaque in a little park in the center of town.

This is a sign for Hotel Limpia and below is a photo of their roses & garden.

Gertie is window shopping at the gift shop at Hotel Limpia.

This little rock house is in the center of town, on the main street.
It is for sale for a mere $350,000.
Real estate is at a premium here. Just outside town the views are spectacular!

The afternoon & night before Fort Davis had rain.
Yellow flowers & puddles were in the normally dry town.

Below is another little rental property.
The outside is cute & quaint, but I'm not sure about the interior.
There were high-end autos parked outside...

This is just a little photo essay of an early morning walk.
The surrounding area is much more revealing of the reason people visit the area.
The Davis Mountains are a great place for camping, hiking, birdwatching, and enjoying nature.
Nearby is the University of Texas McDonald Observatory.
Two or three nights a week Star Parties are held. Smaller scopes than the giant ones are set up and run by astronomers from UT. It is fun and quite informative.
