As we say here in Texas... YeeHaw!!! We're going to west Texas this weekend for the grand opening of Padre's! My friend and Episcopal priest, Bill Miller, is one of the owners of Padre's. Of course it is evident how the bar got its name with a priest as a co-owner.

The festivities will begin Friday night with the legendary Texas country singer Johnny Bush. Saturday night a local group will perform. Sunday the noon show will be a gospel and jazz group followed in the evening by another "soulful" group, Element,will perform.


According to their website Padre's is a true Texas original, housed in a beautifully renovated 100 yr. old adobe building that was formerly a feed store, carriage shop and funeral home. Padre's is located in the heart of the funky, eclectic and diverse West Texas arts town of Marfa. Padre's features a hardwood dance floor,a fully stocked bar with an extensive beer and tequila selection, an "ice house" style back game room with shuffleboard, pool, pinball, and two vintage jukeboxes, a big screen for cheering on your favorite Texas teams, live music, delicious food, and a comfortable outdoor patio with a fountain and fire pit, perfect for enjoying the great high desert climate.

Marfa, Texas is one of the most unique places in the United States. Located in the high desert of far West Texas, it's out of the way location is part of its charm. A majority Latino population is supplemented with an interesting mix of cowboys, artists, musicians, and writers. At its core it is a dusty little Texas town with a heart and soul as big as the wide open West Texas skies. Marfa was the film location for a number of American classics, such as "Giant", "No Country For Old Men" and "There Will Be Blood". It has become a mecca for lovers of modern art, attracting art pilgrims from all over the world. Minimalist giant (wait, is that an oxymoron?) Donald Judd, made his home here. The Chinati Foundation and the Judd Foundation preserve his home, studio, and many of his works of art displayed at the former Fort D.A.Russell. Galleries abound in Marfa. Strolling down the sparsely populated Marfa streets, one might stumble upon a New York bistro, and exhibition of Andy Warhol's Last Supper, a historic hotel, a lively conjunto concert in Spanish, a lonely tumbleweed, or a sidewalk that got rolled up before the sun went down.
