Today Gerald & I went birding at Hornsby Bend near Austin. The photos are as follows:1. Gerald

5. Crested Cara-Cara at a ranch
The little snipe sat still as could be for a long time while I walked toward it. I would take a photo, walk a few steps closer, take another, and so on until on the fourth or fifth photo it flew away. Take note of his long bill. Snipes will sit still for a long time because they are so camouflaged with their surroundings.
The Crested Cara-Cara was very beautiful and quite brown looking. Usually they are blacker. This one may have been an immature but it was quite large so I'm not sure.
