News break says plane hit geese in flight causing controlled landing in Hudson River in NYC. Birds struck both engines.
The ferry boats picked up survivors. Witness said plane stayed high in the water for a good 5 minutes. People evacuated hopefully all got out unhurt.
Plane was in the air for less than 3 minutes. Touchdown was very smooth and controlled.
First passengers are arriving at area hospitals. Flight 1549 going to Charlotte, NC and then on to Seattle, WA. By all accounts of what is being reported is people were evacuated.
Within 4 minutes a ferry boats arrived and plane was still high in the water. From 10 to 20 minutes the plane remained high enough in the water for evacuations to take place according to an eye witness in one of the office buildings nearby.
The pilot(s) did an unbelievably outstanding job in bringing this plane down in an unpopulated area. Unofficially all are off safely. Water in Hudson River is near freezing temperature. Outdoor temperatures are in 20s with wind-chill even colder.
